Jagan Gopinath

Jagan Gopinath’s journey from agricultural economics to global commodity markets spans over two decades, built on a consistent focus: turning analytical insight into practical trading and risk management decisions.

An alumnus of the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi and the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A), Jagan has worked with leading commodity and agri-business firms including ITC Limited, Olam International, and Arvind Limited. He also served as Associate Director on the Board of Directors of the International Cotton Association, Liverpool, UK.

Across these roles, he developed a core investment belief: sustainable returns emerge not from the application of any single analytical lens, but from the disciplined integration of macroeconomic context, commodity specific fundamental analysis, analysis of the behaviour of the institutional market participants, technical signals, and robust risk management frameworks. This integrated approach forms the foundation of the insights shared through the HedgesPro platform.

Jagan is the founder of Rainflo Consulting LLP, a commodity-focused advisory firm dedicated to strengthening decision systems for commodity sourcing and price risk management within client organizations. Through its three verticals - Rainflo Analytics, Rainflo Advisory, and Rainflo Academy – the firm delivers actionable market insights, tailored risk management and sourcing strategies, and capability-building programs that enable organizations to build world class in-house execution teams.

He is currently pursuing a PhD in Strategic Management at IIM Kozhikode, with research focussed on the strategic dimensions of digital transformation.

Beyond markets, he is an avid reader of history, economics and strategy, drawing perspective from long-term economic cycles and real-time market data.

He lives with his wife Smija, a faculty member at Kerala Agricultural University, and is inspired by his two sons Sidharth and Adhvik, who are pursuing paths in science.
